'Shotgun' is a declaration of war against depression; a promise to eradicate one's inner demons. In the song, ARAE establishes the duality of her personality, and her interiorized battle with mental health.

"I think of my depression as a being growing inside me, some sticky dark matter that's eating me up slowly, dictating my decisions. While writing the song, I was thinking about how it would feel to get rid of this other me, if one day I retaliated. That would be it, the only murder you could get away with."
